Foundation Programs

The foundation funds a number of programs that allow the ACPD to operate more efficiently, enhance public safety, and engage the community. Check out our latest initiatives below.

Community Engagement

The ACPF hosts critical opportunities for the police to interact with the community in fun, relaxed, non-enforcement capacities. These events build strong police-community relationships which are essential to public safety.

Events include Santa on Patrol. Putt-Putt with Police, Walk with a Cop, Bowling with Badges, Community Days at the Park, and more.

“Thank you for hosting these events. So often we hear bad things about police but here in Albemarle we are lucky to have officers who truly care about the community. you all are amazing and I hope more people will come out to these events and get to know the people who keep us safe.”

Housing Assistance

Are you an ACPD officer in need of housing assistance?

“I really enjoy living in Albemarle County. The rental assistance program made this possible. Along with enjoying the benefits of being close to work, I get to enjoy the many different things that living in the County has to offer. I most enjoy being able to build relationships within the County that allow me to give back to the community.”

- ACPD Housing Grant Recipient

Did you know the starting pay for an Albemarle officer is $40,004? Albemarle is one of the most expensive areas to live with a median housing price of $420,000 and rents at higher than average for the County’s size. The Foundation created a housing program to enable more officers to reside in the County. The program offers up to $20,000 in down payment or closing cost assistance for home purchases, and $3,600 per year in rental grants.

Officer Wellness

The Foundation believes that high officer morale and wellness promote excellent policing. The Foundation recognizes ACPD’s exemplary service during Police Week, Law Enforcement Appreciation Day (LEAD), and other times throughout the year to acknowledge all that they do, to thank them for their service and to show them how much it means to the community.

“Thank you for what you have done and continue to do! It’s a great feeling to know that the police foundation and the citizens really care! Thanks again for the continued support”.

Continuing Education

The Foundation funds supplemental officer training, beyond what is required by law for certification and accreditation and up to $2,000 per year per officer or employee towards a degree program (certificate, undergraduate or graduate). The investment in officer education and training benefits not only the officer, but also the Department and the entire community while also serving as a tool officer recruitment and retention.

“The ACPF Educational Scholarship Program has made it possible for me to finish my college education and earn a degree. I have already put the management and leadership skills that I am studying to good use while serving my community.”

Supplemental Assistance

The Foundation funds general grants that promote excellence in local policing. These grants support programs, initiatives, and projects that are strategically focused to complement the department’s policing strategies and not otherwise available from traditional funding sources.

“Thank you for what you have done and continue to do! It’s a great feeling to know that the police foundation and the citizens really care! Thanks again for the continued support”.
